What Is CMAT ?
The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is an entrance test for MBA/PGDM programs conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). As a key national-level examination, CMAT is a gateway for admission into thousands of AICTE-approved management institutes across India, making it one of the most widely accepted exams after CAT. While the IIMs do not accept CMAT scores, a vast number of other reputable government and private business schools do, providing a broad platform of opportunities for aspiring management students.
Each year, generally 70,000-100,000 candidates appear for the CMAT exam, which offers a distinct format and level of difficulty compared to other tests. It is often seen as a crucial exam for candidates seeking admission to excellent B-schools that value a holistic understanding of business, including general awareness and entrepreneurship. Based on recent timelines, candidates are informed that the registration for the CMAT exam will likely open in the final quarter of 2025 for the 2026 session.

CMAT Eligibility Criteria 2025
A candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university.
Candiadtes must have achieved at least 50% marks, or equivalent CGPA, in their Bachler’s Degree (45% for reserved category candidates)
Fianl year graduation students can also apply for CMAT, but they will need to submit thier passing certficate upon admission.
The CMAT eligibility criteria mentions “No age bar” for aspirants to appear for the exam.

CMAT Exam Pattern 2025
Preparation for CMAT 2025 should be aware of the new exam pattern. There will be a total of 20 questions to attempt per section, in each of the five sections of the CMAT 2025 exam. The maximum score for each of the five sections, when added together, is 400.

Registration Process
The CMAT registration process is conducted online through the NTA website and involves the following steps:
- Online Registration: Register on the official NTA-CMAT website using a valid email ID and mobile number to generate login credentials.
- Complete Application Form: Log in and fill out the detailed application form with personal, academic, and contact information.
- Upload Scanned Documents: Upload a recent passport-sized photograph and your signature in the prescribed format and dimensions.
- Pay Examination Fee: Pay the CMAT application fee online through the available payment gateways (Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, UPI).
- Select Test Centre: Choose your preferred test cities from the list provided.
The CMAT fees for the exam must be paid online.

Q1: What purpose does the CMAT exam serve?
A: The CMAT serves the role of taking admission into MBA / PGDM courses at institutions recognized by the AICTE.
Q2: Is CMAT less difficult than CAT?
A: Yes. CMAT is much less difficult than CAT. There is no restricted sectional time limits. Thus, candidates will feel less pressure to complete the given section of the test in a fixed period of time. Furthermore, because it is less than one lakh candidates taking the CMAT entrance exam, it is easy to achieve a higher percentile.
Q3: What marks are acceptable in CMAT?
A: The best B-schools set the CMAT score cut-off in the range of 95-99 percentiles, which translates to about 250-300 marks. To get into a good institution, it is necessary to strive for a score above 300 marks. Furthermore, the aspirants will be able to obtain the desired score, if they attempt 70 or more questions with high accuracy.
