What is MAT?

MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is an all-India test conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association). This year marks the 23rd year of the MAT as the screening test for management programs and other allied programs. It is held periodically four times a year with about 20,000 candidates for each session of MAT. MAT is a springboard to more than 600 B-schools and management colleges in India.

MAT Eligibility Criteria 2025


  • An individual must have graduated in any stream/course or hold an equivalent degree from a UGC recognized university to apply for MAT 2025. This has also been indicated to express those candidates who are in final year of graduation and are awaiting their final year examination results are also eligible to apply for MAT 2025. They would have to provide the passing certificate before the given date to respective MBA college. 


  • There is no cut off score required for MAT. However, cut off scores set forth by the colleges and institutions accepting MAT are 50 percent (45 percent for reserved category). .


  • There is no age limit to appear in MAT. A fresh graduate or a working professional could appear for the exam.


  • Candidates who have qualified a professional degree such as a CA, CS or ICWA could also choose to sit for MAT.

MAT Exam Pattern 2025

MAT is an objective type of exam consisting of a total of 150 questions to gauge the general aptitude of candidates. The duration of the exam is 2 hours (120 minutes). There is no sectional time limit which means you need to manage your time between the different sections. The intention of the exam is to check your critical thinking and time management skills. The exam pattern is divided into five sections:

 

  • Language Comprehension
  • Intelligence & Critical Reasoning
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Data Analysis & Sufficiency 
  • Economic & Business Environment 

 

Each of the above sections consist of 30 questions and has equal weightage of 30 marks. However, the composite MAT score is calculated on a scale of 199-801. There is a negative marking of 25% for every wrong answer.

MAT is designed to assess the candidate’s awareness of various fields, including reasoning, mathematics, calculation, data interpretation, and current affairs. Generally, this examination has a combination of easy to moderate questions in each section. Although there is not a standard syllabus for MAT, There are some important topics of each section in the pattern of the previous year’s examinations:

Registration Process MAT 2025

  • Go to the official website and open the registration to create the new login.
  • Enter your personal details and password. 
  • You will receive the confirmation of your email. Note your Id and password.
  • Login using your ID and password.
  • Select the exam center.
  • Select the MAT accepting institute 
  • Enter your personal details
  • Enter your qualifications and work experience if any
  • Upload your scanned signature and photograph
  • Pay the application fee, which has to be paid via online mode.
